I accidentily added 2 cups of sugar, one package of yeast, and 1 teaspoon of baking powder (oops) it's supposed to be baking soda correct. Should I start all over?

I don't know what reaction you will get. But I would start again, just to be on the safe side.

Ok I redid it, here's what I used:
1 liter warm water
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup sugar
1 packet yeast

mix everything in a separate container then poured it into the bottle screwed the cap on and now waiting. Does this sound ok?

2l water
2 cups sugar
1 tsp yeast

If this doens't yield enough CO2 then mix another bottle up and connect them together using a t-connector. See my sig for some instructions.

baking soda is for biscuits, baking powder is for cakes!!!! i learnt that yesterday when baking a birthday cake!!! impressed hey, i was lol

seriously i dont know the difference (from a co2 point of view)

i use (in a nutrafin kit) sugar to first fins, 1/2 tsp yeast, 1/2 tsp baking soda, (dissolve the yeast in a glass first then add to the mix) and top up with warm, not hot water to 2cm below the top fins.

As far as I know, and far be it from me to contradict Master Jimbooo ;), the baking soda/powder is just for buffering the water and not directly for CO2 production. Depending on test results it may not even be neccessary? Have i got this wrong?

no you are correct andy (nice to see you again old chap) it's just for stabalising the reaction. yeast alone can react in fits and bursts, adding the bicarb will produce more of a constant flow. i have used it with and without, i get the furry white gunk in both instances (sorry zig but i do). apparently with high KH you dont need the bicarb, mine is KH13 and i use it anyway. not sure if it's totally necessary but if it works i see no need to change what i'm doing.

Nicely clarified, Jim. My co2 seems constant so i don't need it, obviously. With any luck, and a little assistance from zig, i'll be pressurised soon anyway......back on the EI track!

Ok sorry for the late reply, had a power failure which screwed up our router and my dad had to fix it. Isn't the baking soda to prolong the yeast's life though.

Ok how does this sound, looked at pseud's link, sorry jimboo can't use yours because I don't have a nutrifin co2 thing, plan on getting one soon though they have one a my lfs for 15$ discount, as soon as I get paid for reffing this weekend I'll pick it up.
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
and fill the pop bottle up to where it starts getting smaller sound good? How should I go about mixing it? Pseud, how often do you think I should replace the bottle if I'm just using one 2litre bottle for my 10 gallon at the moment, will I be ok every 2, 3, or 1 week?

Austin

So mix 1.5 cups of sugar in a little less than 1 litre of warm water then quickly take the cap off the bottle and and pour it in then cap the bottle?
