what new world cichlids could i keep in a *species only* 15gal? :hey:

btw, i very much like cockatoo cichlids, is 15gal big enough?

Think you could might be able to, but what length and width is the tank?

they spend most of thier time near the bottom so the floor size is pretty important

Hi there,

First off, what are you're water conditions (pH, GH & KH) as that will have a major influence on what you would be able to stock succesfully in such a small tank.

You'll struggle with Apisto's in a 15 gallon tank, ideally you want 20 gallons minimum for a pair (the male needs space to escape from the female when they breed). But in a 15 with plenty of hiding spaces you might just be lucky with a pair (and nothing else).

You could jump continents and look at some of the smaller shellies from Lake Tanganyika, a pair would probably work here as well (again, nothing else in the tank though).

its a Tropiquarium 55

Please note > the tropiquarium 55 is a 40 litre tank (8.8 UK gallon) so by the time you add decor etc you'll probably have less than 8 gallons of water in that tank.

In view of that, I think you will struggle with most cichlids (even the dwarves) in this tank. Due to their aggression, they need space to escape from each other.

ok, so a no-no then

i do have a 50gal set up, the fish are in my sig, could i put cockatoos in that?

You already have a lot of bottom dwellers, including the much more aggressive Kribs. I would use the other two tanks for something more suitable then cichlids.

it came to me off another post but badis badis (scarlet) should be ok if the only fish...
not a cichlid tho, but as close as!!!

p.s. may b a small cory aswell
