I normally use API Stress Coat but my LFS only had small bottles which are no good to me so I bought Nutrafin Water Conditioner AquaPlus.

I have just read the instructions and I am totally confused. The directions for water changes say "to remove chlorine 10ml per 15UK gals" then underneath "to remove chloramine 10ml per 7.5UK gals"

Does this mean I have to put like double dosage? I have worked out that it would take about 21 capfuls to do our 105 uk gal tank!!!!!

Surely not? Is this just a ploy by Nutrafin to get you to use loads and therfore spend more money?

Anyone else use this brand?

Have you ever asked them if they can order a larger container. I got mine to do that and paid something like £38 for like a gallon. Which will last me for a veeeeeery long time in my 100Gallon tank.
If not, a larger quantity would be cheaper online.

I have not used Nutrafin, so sorry can't help you there.

Yeah, they normally have the larger bottles and I thought about ordering it but I was on my lunch break so didn't have much time. I'm out of the stuff completely so had to take something today - the mts have struck and we are re-setting up the Jewel 120 tonight! :D

I don't see how putting a load in to remove the chlorine won't also remove the chloramine at the same time?

I use this stuff and use it at the chloramine dose level to be on the safe side. (approx 1/3 of a capful per 2 gal bucket)

Have to say i've never had any problems with it but i see your point at having to use loads for the size of your tank.

It's nothing more than really watered down sodium thiosulfate. Seachem recommends 1ml of Prime for every 10 gallons. It does take more sodium thiosulfate to break down chloramine, add in the weak concentration of that product, and you are dumping in around 120 ml for your tank. It is a ripoff, do some research & save money. :)

i have this nutrafin stuff and one question do you add it to the tank after you have put the water in or the water before you put it in the tank. i have been doing the second one putting it in the water i add to the tank. not putting it in the tank. just wanted to check

Interesting thread hre on the topic of water conditioners in general : Water Conditioners

I was given Nutrafin with my kit when I started, but I didn't use it much. I was also confused by the dosing instructions! Now I use Tera Aquasafe, but when that's finished I will either move to API Stress Coat or one of the other conditioners recommended in the above thread. Possibly even a pond dechlor.

Irf.

I started using this about a month ago.
Alot Cheaper than Aquasafe.
Ebay has the 2Litre Boxes for under 20gbp delivered.
I Use 2-3 pumps into the bucket i use for waer changes.

1 thing I like best it does not stink up your hands like Aquasafe.

What did you start using? The Nutrafin?

I think Seachems "prime" is one of the most cost effective dechlorinators on the market
