Nutrafin plant system any good?

It takes a few days before its up to full speed atleast 3 days ive found

Hey def what the problem? why would it affect ur platys? i didnt think they had a diffuser setting, the bubbles just come out as they wish.

I think it is worth giving it another go but if you really dont want it im looking for another one and will obviosly pay ur for it, if your interested?

Yup, I'm selling mine. It's effectively good as new (it's 6 days old!), so if you're interested, make me an offer. I'm UK, so UK only.

It's definately the co2 system that caused the problem, as soon as I took it out everything went back to normal in about 6 hours or so.

When you say everything went back to normal i dont understand, what exactly happened to not be normal?

Its a Hagen nutrafin co2 isnt it? the one with the ladder?

ill give you £10 for itincluding postage, that should only be really cheap, there really light, i live in surrey uk

I have 2 of these sytems in my tank and have never had a problem. I have platys guppies rainbow fish and lots of gouramis and have no problems. The sytem is harmless, and should in no way affect your fish. They do take a while to settle with bubble flow about a week to get upto full steam then its a bubble every fe seconds. Its done wonders in my tank even though with 95G I should really have 4 rather than 2, but there is only so much rom to stick allthe junk you need to run a tank ;) What problems have you had? :dunno:

What can I say... it's 100% definately the CO2 system. It's been out the tank 2 days now and the fish are fine. The fact that gasping happened at night is pretty conclusive (plants absorb oxygen at night, so there must have been hardly any left in the water for the platys).

I have no doubt it works for some people, it just didn't work for me and I'm not willing to risk my platys health over trying it again.

maestro yep, it's the nutrafin one with the double sided diffuser ladder. There's a link in my first post in this thread. Re: price, that's a bit low for me as it's not light - the box is quite big and the canister is quite heavy so postage will be a few quid at least, plus it's effectively brand new. You've got first refusal on it anyway, see my pm to you.

just an idea def, but why not try setting a timer on an airpump to turn it on at night and so agitating the surface at night and stopping the CO2 from getting in to the water too much?
I use DIY CO2 on 2 of my tanks and they run through the night with no problems at all!!

I had my fluval 3 running a powerful stream 24hours a day for as long as I had the CO2 system in, it didn't help. Maybe there's something funny about my setup, my water, my fluval, whatever. I doubt I'll figure it out, it might be an overreaction to junk the CO2 system but after the scare I had I don't want to risk it again. My plants were doing OK before the CO2, I only added it as an "extra" to improve growth and I never actually wanted a planted tank as such. So I'm not annoyed about getting rid of it, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for your thoughts though...

Same here.. I don't change the airation level at night and I have a tank full of fish. Maybe its just one of thougs things :dunno: . Do you have airstones of some kind in for the airation? The bubbles really need to be comming from the bottom of the tank to allow maximum absorbtion into the water and the finer the better.

No airstone, just the fluval. The way I have the fluval set makes sure the water in the tank circulates with air drawn in through the outlet... If you look closely at the front of the tank, you can see lots of tiny air bubbles circulating round, so I don't need an airstone. Maybe that would have made the difference, dunno.
