I've finally ordered a Nutrafin CO2 kit (well done eBay, first time I've seen something cheaper than the shops!). I've never ever tested CO2 levels with my previous Tetra Optimat kit but am thinking that I should really test once I have a more long lasting/permanent CO2 input. Are the permanent tests a good investment? I will likely be upgrading to 2WPG shortly (instead of 1WPG) so I would like to get a reasonably stable level somehow. Any recommendations for entry-level kits?

I bought one of the egg shaped drop checkers off ebay, then followed the KH4 DIY reference and used the Ph drops.

I have 2 Nutrafin kits and didn't have a clue wether it was producing enough CO2 or not.

Thanks to the drop checker I can now see what is happening CO2 wise.

Well worth it.

(I did get a ceramic Rhinox 2000 diffusor and Gamba X11 bubble counter/non return valve too so that I could maximise the CO2 diffusion)
