Does anyone use this setup? if so i need some help coz i lost the instructions, i have got all the bits stabiliser activator etc but need to know how to get it going

You're best making up your own mixture. The ones included in the kit are useless.

Fill the bottom of the canister to the first marker with sugar, then fill with luke warm water to the top marker. Add yeast, enough to cover the top of the water about 80% and 2-3 scoops of bicarbonate of soda (end of a spoon).

Any yeast will do. Im using brewers yeast but Ive heard it said champagne yeast is best. It all comes to life when wet warm and with lots of sugar to eat!!!! Also when the bubbles slow up and you need to do a new mix dont tip it all out just give it a stir pour out two thirds or so then bung in more sugar and top up with luke warm water and off it will go again as there will still be plenty of hungry yeast in there(this means you dont have to keep getting more yeast)

Hope it helps johnny

I've just started using this myself - impressed with it so far, it's worth buying for the diffuser alone.

Definatly use your own mixture as suggested above, works way better than those packets!

hi there .i also have this system .it works out bloody pricey buying the mixture,i want to add another to my tank.but want to avoid the cost of the sachets,so can you advise me where to get the D.I.Y ingredients please
ta

Have a look here http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=139479.
:good:

This is the mix i use:

i) Fill sugar to first fin.
ii) Mix yeast with the warm water
iii) Pour this to the caniser
iv) Top up to 2cm below the top with more warm water
v) Give it a good shake or stir to dissolve all the sugar
vi) Hook it up! It should produce bubbles in about an hr but often takes just a few minutes

If you really want to have a very detailed and indepth understanding of CO2 in the planted tank and all yeast types etc. then this definitely is one of the best articles I've ever come across. It is intended for DIY CO2 and not specifically the Hagen system - it gives such an amazing understanding of how it all works :good: (though admittedly it took me a few times to read for it all to sink in!)
