I have a communal tank which has been up and running for several months, 85l.
We have also just acquired a smaller tank, about 65l, which I am planning on using to breed Mollies/Platys. It's up and running and I have used water/filter matter from the communal tank to speed up the water cycle etc etc so it'll be ready soon.
I'm relatively new to this Fish Keeping hobby so some advice would be greatly appreciated.
Is it better to separate the females into the smaller tank and then introduce the Males dependant on what colours I would like to come out?
OR Leave them all in together in the larger tank, which also houses some Neons and Shrimps, and remove the females once they look like they are about to drop, using the smaller tank like a nursery?
The reason I ask is that they've all been in together for some time (three months) and I have only seen one baby. I'm sure they've all been eaten rather than I have bought a load of infertile males/females and I can't seem to do anything to encourage them to breed either.
I'm wondering if the separation may help in promoting 'hornyness'!
