i've got 3 male guppies in my tank, 2 of which swim very close together, the other swimming on his own. the two swimming together almost tangle up. is this normal behaviour for males?

i've also noticed that recently they have started to eat algae from the glass of the tank. Is this also normal behaviour??

I wasnt sure if the two males swimming together are trying to form some sort of leadership.

It might be a dominance thing; some of my mum's do it sometimes; I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Most fish will pick at algae, perfectly normal. My mum (well, she's the one that breeds guppies, lol, I don't really like them!) raises her fry in green water.

im glad they all pick at the algae, i wasnt sure if it was a sign of them being hungry and me not feeding them enough

It is a sure sign that the glass of the tank has a nice mature micro-organism colony growing. There are plenty of live foods that are too small for us to see easily and many common livebearers will pick at those colonies all day for the bit of live food that they provide. It is not much in the way of food but it keeps the fish occupied and it is good for them to find their own food, especially in an artificial setting like our tanks.
