My two rescue CT bettas are in quarantine. I have them in a divided 18l, bare tank with slow flow out put filter and heater. The tank temp is 30 degrees. I got them last Saturday. The fin damage isnt too bad, and their colour is coming back rapidly. However, today they arnt tanking any food. Just sittng on the bottom, then coming up for air. I have recently treated them for internal parasites. One of the bettas belly is HUGE! it is the size of a pregnant guppies. I have tried feeding it a deshelled pea yesterday, but it wasnt interested. They can swim normally when going for air etc so i know it isnt swim bladder?!

as per ur last post, lower the water, and they shudnt be at 30c thats wayyy to warm

It could be a bacterial problem, run them on a good antibacterial. My oldest female recently had this and we did some reading and the only thing that fit was an internal bacterial problem. I cant remember the name of the meds we used, but im sure someone els can help you with that.

Best of luck!

ok. The water level is lowered, they have been treated, ph is neutral, and im lowering the temp ;)

ok get it to about 28c, add interpet anti internal bac, or something that treats internal bac, try feeding them some mushed up garlic:)

MSUHED GARLIC???  lol. Im not sure they will eat it... They havnt been eating anything for a while. I think the harmfull bacteria got to them in the bloodworms which they have been eating alot lately.

blood worms shud only be fed once per week. how many worms do u feed per fish?

yes garlic, tis good for the immune system, and they will probs eat it

Both Fish have died over night :-( not good. Not a good start to keeping bettas either i dont think :( The worst thing is, i wont be able to try again. My LFS is miillles away so we go like once a month. Oh well. Maby its timeto give up

dont think like that, weve all had bad luck, ive lost a few bettas, and yes it does hurt, but its no reason to give up keeping them

as i said to u in PM, they were all torn and ripped when u got them, chances are they were really ill before u got them

I know. It is just so hard to get hold of them around here. At least they had a good little life whilst they were here :/
