Hi, been looking at a lot of the stickies but can't find answers for a question that i have, so here goes -

Q. What would people recommend for a good and reliable water testing kit ??? Obviously one that covers the esentials like Nitrate, Nitrite, PH and Ammonia etc. There are som many on the market and i am just lost with them all. There seems to be kits that have very limited uses like 3 or 4 tests then there are the tests that are like the tetra strip 5 in 1. What would people recommend for a nooby. I have a 60l Biorb tank with the LED light, if that makes any difference.

ps. Thanks very much in advance for any advice you have to offer.

Use the tetra strip 5 in 1 it is a little expensive but ideal for a newcomer to fishkeeping and easy to read.
I am glad you are thinking carefully about testing your water. :good:

Do the 5 in 1 tetra tests actually test for ammonia though, i thought it was just pH General Hardness, Carbonate Hardness, Nitrite, Nitrate. If so would you buy a seperate ammonia test kit or ???? Is there not a kit that has them all in one kit ???

The API Freshwater Master Test Kit would be my recommendation.

I use the API kit, and have found it to be pretty accurate when comparing it to the results from the LFS on the same water sample :)

Me too.... its a good kit. I also have the nutrafin liquid test kits for GH and KH which i bought because i was introducing co2 into the tank.

Most people seem to say that liquid test kits are more reliable than the strips/5 in one.
