Hmm. I have read more than once about something called gas bubble disease or something from giving your fish non-aged water. I do not age mine (can't see how it's doable logistically, I don;t have anywhere to keep big filled up containers or buckets for 24 hours, plus for a while there I was doing multiple-daily changes while cycling). Am I doing something bad for or to the fish by filling a container with water, adding the dechlorinator, and putting the water right in??

And, when I get my 55 gallon up and running, I'll be adding the dechlorinator to the tank, and then water straight in from the tap (via a Python) - is that bad too??

some leave water standing to gas off the chlorine, however if your water company uses chloramine then dechlorinator is needed to break the chlora-amine bond.

You are doing fine Winterlily. With a modern dechlorinator there is very little reason to worry about letting water stand before you use it. Many years ago there was no commercial dechlorinator available and we all let water stand before using it but things have moved forward since then. At that time people also never did any more than a 5 to 10% water change because they knew that big water changes killed fish. What was happening was that the fish would become gradually accustomed to the nasty build up in the tank water and adding good water would cause the fish to die from the sudden change in water quality.

i wondered this same thing. but i always just added water right away. thanks for answering this question for me too!

Ahhhh. Okay, thanks OM47! I understand completely now. Great - glad I'm not doing anything that's bad for the fish - Thank you!
