Are you not suppose to here the power heads when they are in the aquarium?
These koralias i have one of them is definately faulty because it is rattling so that is no good.
The other two are humming and vibrating my tank so much that if this is what i will have to put up with then i dont think i will be able to do marines?
Iv had the tank in the room for 3yrs and a tank before that for 2yrs keeping tropicals. This tank previously had 3 eheim power filters in it and although were in the cupboard where 99% silent, these are taking the #101## and driving me mad iv unfortunately for me had to sit in the living room with them making a monotonous humming for the past 48hrs.
They are totally silent as soon as they are connected to there magnet the noise starts and then when they stick to the glass gets worse.
Its not loud, well maybe not sure how they should sound? The girlfriend is not happy and my mate says he couldnt put up with it.
I have put foam under the rim of the lid which reduces the noise about 2%. Because i am waiting for my live rock comin tuesday i have only filled the tank 3 quarters and it has no sand or rock or anything in not sure if this would contribute to the noise? Im actually looking forward to going to work tomorro so i cant here it. If i can liken it to somethin i would say its like when you here a helicopter outside just hovering but quite high up. Not to loud but enough to be annoying! :(

Its definately the backs if i pull them off the magnet with the grey stick on they are silent, touch the grey stick on the powerhead gets noisy stick it on the tank, audio hell

No one at all had this problem?

Hi rl1oyd

I had this problem after cleaning one of mine a few months ago. I ended up taking it out of the tank to keep as a spare and bought 2 koralia "copies" off ebay for £10. They seem to do pretty much the same job!

The only think I hate about this type of powerhead is that the ceramic shaft is REALLY fragile

what is your cabinet attached to? How is your tank attached ot the cabinet? It could be that the koralias are vibrating your tank in a way that your (i assume wood) stand is making the humming noise. I don't use koralias, but it could be that your magnets need to break in?

Don't give up on marines because of a noisy powerhead. I know if my piping for the return from my sump touches my stand, i get a loud hum from the resonance. If your stand is on hardwood floor, maybe put something under it, or in between your tank and stand if possible!

Read your other post too.

Do you have the controllable k5s? or the non-controllable? If you are plugging in controllable (12v signal) koralias into a 120V socket (or whatever you have over there), it could be spinning the impeller WAY TOO FAST and causing the hum! Are your koralias hot after using them?

that's interesting - send them an email saying that you only bought from them because the forum you belong to had made the recommendation!!! You might also want to tell them that actually 'the pumps are not fit for use' so it is their responsibility to sort out!!! Tell them both you and the forum members looks forward to their reply
