Noisy Filter

Today I took out the carbon filter in my Eheim 2215 filter (it's the filter with lots of sponges). I made a massive mess doing it too, so if someone could tell me how to get the water out of it before I open it that would be great!

Now it is noisy, it wasn't before - what have I done? It's a constant rattling sound and it's doing my head in.

Check the propeller, remove it, clean it and replace it. Make sure it is seated correctly. Did you clean the filter in old tank water?

I didn't clean it at all - I just took the carbon sponge out (the top one, so no messing).

I don't have Eheims, but my guess would be that you've knocked the impellor. You'll probably need to take it apart again, sorry; though you could try gently tilting it in case it's just trapped air.

As for getting the water out before you take the top off..well, as I said, I don't have Eheims, so don't know how they're configured, but you might be able to stand the canister in a washing up bowl or something before you take the top off and then pour some of the water out by tipping it? Works with my huge APS ones.
