Hi

I've recently done a water chnage and ever since my elite filter is making a rattling noise - it's driveing me mad and the fish must be going insane!!

I've opened the filter, and everything seems intact and the filter seems to be working properley. It sounds as if the stones in the carbon/zeolite filter cartridges are making the rattling noise. The filter cartridges are only 2 weeks old!

Any ideas?

Hi

I've also just discovered that my filter is for 15 gallon tank and i've got a 30 gallon tank! Does anyone know if I can get away with using my existing filter?

Sound like there is some air trapped, just shake it around a bit and it should come out :D

And if the water turn over isnt enough then the fish may suffer, what is your current stock? If it is overstocked or just under overstocking then i'd suggest picking up an external or a much more powerful HOB filter.

 did you turn off the filter before maintenance?make sure the filters under the water then make sure its full of water first before turning it on :good:

iam unsure of these filters but have you check the impeller?

try to go for a filter for a tank bigger than yours ie 50 gallon or so,,,,,externals are the best in my oppinon

 same as.......

did you turn filter off before maintaining?

check impeller/fill with water/make sure its under water level and then try it on,,,,,,

:good:

Hi

Recently I have been doing water changes - and the filter did operate for a couple of seconds whilst out of water - maybe that's what caused it! I'll give it a good shake and check the impeller.

I've got x2 baby black moors - so I'm not really overstocking the water.

I have had them for about a week and initially put them in a tank which i'd been cycleing for a week - I know not good! Now, my amonnia levels are creeping up (0.5) and I thus did a water change yesterday, which is when I caused my filter to go funny. I'm gonna keep doing 50% water changes daily until I get the amonia levels down. I let you know how I get on.

Cheers
