Well I probably should have started this sooner rather than now because of where I am at with it but here I go:

I was going to go over to saltwater soon but it has to wait for now, most likely the end of January, many longer, who knows. I decided that I was going to do away with my smaller aquariums and go with this which I have wanted to go with for a long time, the current set up includes:

ESU Digital Power Center
Marine Land C-160 Canister Filter
AGA 30" Versa Top
Corallife 30" PC Fluorescent Lighting with stands
AGA 20 Gallon Long Aquairum
Aqurium Gravel
2 Live Plants on Aqua Wood
My Girlfriends Siamese "Betta" Fish Sylvester and
His Favorite Hiding Pots

Right now I am waiting for:

Cascade 1000 Series Cansiter Filter( Switching from 165gph to 265gph)
In Line External Thermal Heater
Digital Thermometer

Here are the 2 pictures I currently have of the tank, I will do regular updates when I can:

Just set it up last night and ran some tests this morning and everything looks fine so far

And Sylvester:

Thats all for now.

Looking good, lovely betta. :good: Are you planning on adding some more plants (hope so)?

Yeah I do plan on adding more plants hopefully planted, I know I said last night but it's actually been two and I figure that the tank has turned over about 350 times when I originally posted this. I was looking at going with gourami's, any suggestions?

i wouldn't suggest gourami's.
it would eventually have problems with the betta.

What are some good fish that will be peaceful enough for the betta?

Bare in mind even peaceful fish will struggle to resist the temptation to rip the Betta's fins to piece, most tetra will fin nip.

Personly id get a bowl for the betta and stock the tank with fish suitable for a community.

Thanks for the input so far everyone, I am readily waiting the delivery of my new canister and heater today. I most likely will add some more fish tomorrow night if the water is fine and everything works out.

"""""What would be some good fish that the betta will not kill?"""""

LOL - the idea that the Betta could actually kill any other fish is kind of outmoded, with their crappy long finnage (in design terms) they are quite delicate.

I would suggest croaking or snake skin guorami, Khuli Loaches, Phantom Tetras.... basically anything non nippy, not too boistrous and not a fast swimmer.

You do know that you havent cycled that tank in 1 night or 2 for that matter. You should read the sticky on cycling and do that before even considering adding more fish.

I understand about cycling but I have been doing freshwater tanks like this for 6 years and have only lost one fish. I'm not trying to sound cocky or ignorant but it's what works for me and I have never had a problem.
