I have just peered into my tank to see my favourite german blue ram had passed away bless him.

i think it was the nitrates that had him they had got to 20ppm , i like to keep them below 10ppm

aww he was a beauty, i will have to find my existing female a male friend

rest in peace my friend :-(

my 4th death in 12 months

awww so sorry truck bless the poor little chappy :rip:

i cant believe it had just got him hand feeding, i just experimented for a bit and just got to the stage where he would take a blood worm from my fingers.

ill miss him :rip:

20ppm Nitrates won't kill a fish. There must be some other underlying reason for his demise.

RIP to the poor little guy :(

Maybe from 0 nitrAtes to 20 immediately might cause a problem, but it would have been a gradual rise, its recommended to keep them as low as possible, but thats certainly not bad for many tanks, my tap water can come out at 20ppm and my rams were fine with it.

Are you sure there was no symptoms of anything untoward truck?

Anyway, sorry about your loss.

i was looking at rams earlier there really nice fish i thought about bying a couple what are they like in a communitty tank and for breeding ??

sorry for your loss

no under lying problems

ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 20ppm (at the time) now 0
PH 6.8

he was in tip top condition, i swear it was the nitrates, my tap nitrates are 10ppm.
i do weekly water changes, to keep the nitrates down. i try to keep them below 20. generally around 10ppm
