My mollie (gurtrude) had her frys last thursday. Im happy to say that besides the ones that were eaten upon birth, ive had no losses. i have the 31 that i saved still in the breader and they all seem happy. and they are growing pretty darn fast. i did have to move them to the new tank earlier than planned (story in the emergency section) but they seem ok for now. im so happy. on top of all that the other female (nancy) is about to pop. im gonna have fry everywhere!! :D

Seven days and still all alive and kicking. What am I going to do with these guys when they grow up? I only have 1 55 and 1 20 gal tank. lol.

Great to hear. :D

You could try giving some away to the LFS. Or post them in the Buy, Sell, and Swap section here. There's also other places where you can put fish up for sale. :)

One thing you can do is seperate the fry into males and females as soon as you can to prevent even more babies, and inbreeding.

didnt think about that. how old to they need to be before they can reproduce?i was hoping to keep some, but if i do they will inbreed?

I believe it's between 4-6 months on Mollies. But basically, whenever a male gets a gonopodium, they can breed. If you do keep some together, yes, they will breed. A few generations won't hurt, but more then that gives you weaker fry and a bigger chance of deformities. :/

well my 2nd mrs.molly had her babies. found them this morning. i was only able to save 4. their daddy was extra hungry i guess... :(

That's too bad. Some fathers just have no sense of parenting... :p

Be glad for the fry you have, though. Remember, some can still be hiding. Fry are excellent hiders, and sometimes you won't even see them until they are a lot bigger and get noticeable. I've had fry live for a few months without me knowing about them.

Congrats on the new arrivals, though. :D

hey for finding homes for your fry try craigslist.org. i don't know how popular it is in san diego, but up by san francisco thousands of people use it to look for or find homes for fish.

If you are worried about keeping them and having them inbreed, when they get to the right size why don't you go and ask your lfs wether he would take yours for an exchange of some of their's.

The worst that could happen is that they will say no.

They may even just give you credit at their shop in exchange for fish!!

there is no harm in trying!!

already done that. just about every lfs does here in san diego. even petsmart.(they give the most credit) so that already taken care of. the lfs closest to my house says he prefers privately breeded mollies to the ones he has to order, so i already got that going. this is so fun.
