Nls Or Hikari

My fish didn't eat it at first either. I just gradually added it with their old food and now they are quite ravenous about it

My fish will eat raw chopped garlic, they still spit out the NLS I have. I know freeze drying has the most nutrients but none of my fish will touch that either. Practically all my fish are locally hobbiest bred. I have 6 wild caught and they love the prepared food I get from Ken's. Processing generally looses a lot of nutrients especially dry processing. That is why there are ingredients like stabilized vit. C and extra amounts of synthetic essential elements added to all prepared foods. I am bothered by the fact that my fish happily eat raw fish, raw shrimp, garlic, raw or blanched veggies, and love hikari foods which have very similar ingredients to NLS. Yet they dislike NLS more then any food I have fed.

The preference of your fish doesn't decrease the quality of NLS. Get them hungry, they will take it.

Anyone else: try it.

What about omega one? I looked at omega one freshwater flakes and sea the ingredients contain no fish meal and includes whole salmon, clams, krills, and also i read this somewhere but forgot, most omega one product natural color enhancer like salmon skin. It is ranked in top three along with hikari and NLS

They may also include natural color enhancers, but do use artificial colors. They have multiple preservatives, one being ethoxyquin (which may only be in the meals but may be added directly to the food as a whole). It also contains wheat gluten (good way to increase protein % even if the fish can't use it).

Question? Why do petsmart use omega one if they aren't the highest quality food which according to fishguy2727. Also what food does petco feed their fish? Since the only NLS I can find in a pet store is petco. Petsmart doesn't have NLS products.

I'm no expert on what is in what food but i don't like this idea.
I'd personally eat a human or worse if needed, to stay alive. Doesnt mean i will enjoy it though? :fun:

Because it is expensive in comparison to other foods, but I would have thought they could get it cheap as they'd buy in bulk.

The point is if you keep feeding the fish a food they are used to and like while trying to get them to start eating one they are not used to they will keep eating what they are used to. This is a very common technique that us used all the time to get fish to take different foods.

Petco carries it, but not the whole line. A LFS is ideal, second would be online.

Stores have to make a profit. When we (aquarists on a forum trying to provide the best care possible) talk about diet we want the best thing for them long term. A store just wants to keep them fed until they sell. Those needs are very different and will result in very different choices of food.

I don't think Petsmart uses Omega One, but they do carry it. Either way I wouldn't do much based on their example.
