Nitrogen Cycle

Hello,

I understand the cycle, But as im alone in the aquatics world at home i have a few questions i would like to clear up

1) If ammonium has a load to turn into nitrites, does this mean the more nitrites, the more load it has to turn into nitrates? Is this the reason nitrates gets high because there's to much load and not getting rid of as quick?

2) Plants love nitrates? So does this mean the more plants the lower nitrates will be?

Q1 - Correct, the more Ammonia there is, the more Nitrites will appear, which in turn are changed into Nitrates, which you remove with water changes, OR

Q2 - Correct again, your plants use Nitrate and Ammonia as fertiliser.
