As a follow on from Miss Wiggle's thread about an advanced fishless cycling topic,
I think a dedicated 'Nitrogen Cycle' thread would benefit the forum. The nitrogen cycle is explained in a couple of the pinned articles, but always as a side-line to something else ie. fish-in or fishless cycling. As it is possibly the most crucial thing for an aquarist to understand, I think it should have a dedicated topic.
I don't think it's necessarily the case that learning about the nitrogen cycle will always be hand-in-hand with these other things (maybe someone will have had a tank for years and so it would be cycled, but have never learned about the nitrogen cycle), and therefore a dedicated topic would be useful. It would also mean that noobs would have the chance to learn about the nitrogen cycle first, and then consider the different cycling methods, rather than being hit with information overload.
It would split it into 2 distinct sections
1. Heres what happens - Nitrogen Cycle
2. Heres how to make it happen - Fish-In / Fishless Cycling
I also think that people would understand the methods of cycling far easier if they first had a working knowledge of exactly what they are trying to achieve.
Anyone have any thoughts?
BTT

What level of detail would you be going into though? If you are going into details, you start making it more difficult to explain in a way thats easy for a newcommer to the hobby to understand... It will probibly take a bit of work, but if you want to, and other's like the idea, go for it
