Has anyone got a link about nitrites and nitrates? Thanks James

An interesting, if out of date, read. It makes silly statements about only a fish-in cycle working. It also is at least 10 years out of date with the identification of the active bacteria involved. Although the species involved in a sewage treatment plant are the ones they identified, the ones in a fish tank are entirely different species as Havonek's research reported around the turn of the century. As a guide to a fish-in cycle it is not too bad though. Another common misconception that they allowed to be repeated was that water changes will slow a proper cycle. To understand why that is not true thing of where you would be better fed. Would you be likely to be better fed if you were up to your neck in food or simply up to your waist in food. The water changes make the bacteria up to their waist in food by comparison. As long as we can measure any ammonia or nitrites, there is far more than the bacteria need to reproduce at an optimal rate.
