When I checked my water paramaters, I found I have a small nitrite spike - 0.25. Should I do a water change immediately or just watch the tank to make sure that it doesn't go any higher? I'm just not sure what to do here cause it is a lower reading, and while I know no reading is good, I know I need to get the bacteria built back up as well. The tank has zebra danios and tiger barbs in it. Also, the ammonia is 0.

Did you just recently add more fish? Usually a mini cycle occurs any time you add new fish so that may be the reason. I would do a 10 to 20 percent water change. As you said, .25 isn't really bad (or deadly) but you still need to try to get it back down until it cycles.

I think it was some medicine that I have in their tank. THe LPS gave me primafix, which I'm now thinking is pointless for what has been going on (flashing and white stringy poo). I'll do a small change later today.

Thanks!

Ok, water change done succesfully. I'm not going to be too worried about the meds, I think I was more over reacting than anything, but I'll leave them in at a low dose. Most of the symptoms have largely subsided as well.

Should I keep doing partial water changes until my nitrite is back at zero? Right now my nitrite <.25, but still present. Sorry, I've never had my tank go into a mini-cycle since i cycled my original tank a year ago.
