plants use Nitrite NO3 right? cause im getting plants to bring my nitrite from about 160+ doen to 0 , lol

i was wondering if its nitrite or nitrate that plants use.

I'm pretty sure you don't have 160+ nitrite or you wouldn't have any fis alive.....

If it's nitrate, how has it got that high? Also plants use ammonia, nitrite ans nitrate.

:good:

ill test the nitrite again, but it was over 160 the last time i cheked

hehe i tested nitrite with the wrong thing last time, i put nitrate+1 (10x) then nitrite (10x) lol, so niterite is 0 but my nitrate is 160

another edit............ the nitrite is 0-0.50... that bad???

Depends what plants, lighting lot's of things.

I wouldn't except it to go down much for about a week.

:good:

Do lots of water changes, just because you have plants doesn't mean you don't have to do water changes. Seriously do lots of water changes, this will bring down the nitrate, then your nitrite should drop a bit. Your nitrate should be at 10-20, I wouldn't let it get past 50 if I was you mate, because nitrate is high doses can kill fish. So please, do a 50% water change, leave it for about an hour and then test it again and tell us the results, then we can guide you the right way.

awesome, but a dramatic water change like that can cause algae and bacteria blooms could it not?

ok, so i did the wayer change, now we wait an hour and ill get the results, hope everything goes for the best.

Your nitrate should have gone down, do a 20% water change again and it should work, or it could be that your test kit has gone haywire?

Neal

actually the nitrite went down , but nitrate is red as ever, over 160....

i just did 20% 2 days ago, im gnna do 20% everyother day for a week cause my water seems to have a very very light yellow tone, almost unnoticable now.
