Nitrite At 1.0 ... Help

todays progress:

got up, tested the water, still 1.0 :(
did a 70% water change and removed a rotting plant, which i thought could be the reason for it...
tested again 30 mins later.... 0.25

back from school:
dp is fine, swimming around great,
tested the water.... 1.0 :(

i have also tested the tap water to see if it has high nitrites, but it hasnt, whats the next step of action, the dp is fine, i have just given him some bloodorm :)

??

All you can do is water changes and increase aeration.
High readings can stay like there for a few days before they gradually drop to 0.

thanks guys, sorry i havnt mentioned it, i have been using heavy aeration on one side of the tank since yesteday, when someone suggested it, my ph is 7.6-7.8, i think????

i test with the "ph" solution and its top of the scale at 7.6, so then decide to do it via "high ph" and it comes out at 7.8-8

how can i raise the ph??----- plus i tested the ph of tap water, thats at 8, so something in my tank must be neutralising it :(

thanks guys, how much % water changes should i be doing??

ok, so just keep doing 50% water changes???

he seems fine, could this be because of the high ph i have?
(im not saying i will leave the water is at is btw, i am aware it will be effecting him some way)

50 water changes later, the test kit reads:

0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

i will test again in 2 hours, then in 5hrs... and will be updating my journal with pics soon :)

I would test the water again later. As testing not long after a water change the readings can be false.

It's abit to soon.
Try again just to make sure the readings are 0.

That's good news then.
