Hi Kerri,
Ah that is a shame. Its odd though that ammonia and nitrate levels were ok and the nitrite was so high. If there was sufficient bacteria to breakdown the ammonia, one would think that there would have been enough to break down the nitrite too.
Perhaps getting live rock would be the better option next time?
