This is a huge problem. My nitrite is 0.8. What do I do? It was 0.3 yesterday, so I immediately did a 20% water change. Please help ASAP!

Water changes are the only way to keep it under control.

Do you know what is causing the spike?

What's in the tank?

How big is the tank?

Have you changed / added anything recently?

What is the ammonia level?

The stats are in my sig. I have no clue what can spike it. I have only changed yesterday, and a weel before that etc. The ammonia is 0. Also, I have been using Melafix if that counts. I also use playsand.

I recommend a dose of Amquil+ until you figure out what caused the spike. When you say "weel", do you mean the BIo-Wheel in your filter? If so, your spike is coming from loss of bacteria from changing the wheel. It should calm down quickly. Amquil works a champ for a quick fix.

I bet it is a loss of bacteria. I doubt I will find Amquil at my LFS. Should I just do water changes now then? And, how often?

I did a 40% water change and it went down to 0.3. I will do a 15% water change tomorrow also.
