Nitrifying Bacteria - Where Does It Come From?

here is one for you rdd
if you had a tank in a clean room (like where they make micro chips etc)
would the tank cycle at all?

however, interesting point.. I wonder if i should fishless cycle with the lid open..

As I was thinking later about the closed top, it dawned on me that if you used the airpump to replenish the oxygen depleted by the higher temp, you would be putting the air in the tank so sealing the top probably wouldn't matter.
 
I know lots of people claim running an airpump helps cycle faster. I assumed this was because of increased dissolved gases, but who knows, it may help bring more "seeding" bacteria into the tank.
 
I guess it is possibly both. The only reason I've ever heard for the airstone/pump is to replinish the oxygen but I guess it could also add bacteria.
 
Hmm... after reading this, i just removed the covers from my filters, and we'll see if that helps speed up the cycling time at all.
