hey im in desperate need of help i cleaned my fish tank out 2 days ago as i normaly do with about 20% water change but all of a sudden i tested the nitrate and it was really high and i dont know why its never happened before iv had my tank for about a year now and everything has been fine just a bit worried that im going to loose all my fish as iv had 3 die in the last 2 days one gourmis and two white cloud minnow and iv recently had 4 platty fry and was so pleased that i managed to breed and really dont want them to die what shall i do???????????

How high exactly is the nitrate?

Have you tested for ammonia and nitrite?

How big is the tank, what fish are in it and how do you clean your filters?

Sorry for all the questions, but the more info we have, the more likely we are to be able to help you :good:

the nitrate is0.50 and ammonia is fine but the ph is high as well

Do you mean nitrIte?

That's a lot of fish for a 48l tank. I suspect your filter is struggling to cope with the waste the fish are producing. Lots of water changes until you can arrange to move some fish on, or buy a larger tank is probably your only option, I'm afraid

i have two filters one that is built in to the tank and one that you can put in before i cleaned the tank out the nitrite was normal since then its been high and iv only fed them once was thinking of getting nitra zorb??????
