I use API and really think they are great value for money and overall very accurate.

However I do struggle with the Nitrate test. Anything over 20 (and especially 40 or over) all seem exactly the same colour to me

Any the increments are quite large. Is there a test that's more accurate and easier to read ?

I use the API kits also and as you say, the colors seem to kind of blend in once you get over about 20 ppm. Fortunately, my tanks generally only run about 5 to 10 ppm so it isn't an issue. During fishless cycling, they were off the chart but I didn't really worry since I knew the water change would clear them up.

mmm yeah well I guess mine is ok I suppose - well in fact I know they are as I can see it in my fish - they are generally the best indicators.
Colourful, active, no strange behaviour etc. etc. but it still would be nice to know....
