Nitrate Levels High? Why?

i just tested my mates fish tank! and his nitrate is high! what does he need to do to make it lower! was about 40ppm???

40 is fine. Many people have that from the tap and can still keep sensitive fish like rays.

If you want to get nitrates down the best bet is to do water changes.
