i have a 185 litre tank with 2 zebra danios 2 pearl danios 9 neon tetras (small) 1 male swordtail and 3 others of the same breed that i can't remember the name of. Do i need to put the black nitrate filter in the filtration system as it didn't have one when we brought it.

sorry was told to do with nitrates but yes it says it is a carbon filter on the box

i've never ever used carbon so its safe to say you can have a succesful tank without it! as far as i know carbon just removes any toxins from medicines but have no idea if it removes your nitrates sorry (although they are not what you should be worried about, its the ammonia and nitrite you want to get rid of 
)
