Hi guys, I'm doing some research into the introduction of the Nile Perch into lake victoria for Uni. Just wondering if anyone knew of any good links I might use. Thx in advance for any help. Anything to do with species extinctions would be perfect. :good:

If you're at uni, do you have access to journals (my uni has this thing called Litsearch, dunno if yours has it, but I had a quick look and found quite a few articles in biology/ecology journals on nile perch).

There are also quite a few links on google.
Also what information do you want, eg. effect on native fish, effect on local economy, why they were introduced, when they were introduced etc.

Is an article on lake victoria, ill see if I can find more later.

just thought I'd add...
don't forget to name any reference you use or you will be marked down on it.
also rather than saying info from fishbase, say info from the Swedish institute of ichthyology (it sounds better)
but do include the relevant fishbase page.

good luck with this, I'd be interested to read the final paper

I would also be interested in reading the finished paper. I had no idea conditions in Lake Victoria were so bad. What impact does the hobby have on these cichlids, is it good for aquarists to keep these species, or is the demand for them doing more harm to the population in the wild?

Thx for the repklys guys. Everything will be referenced wolf, but thx for the reminder. It is a 1meter by 1 meter scientific poster I am doing (well group of us). I would be happy to show it but not sure how to get it on here. I am looking at all aspects of the introduction tbh. It is a case study more to do with fisheries an I did have a fair bit of info, I was just wandering whether anyone had any little gems I might have missed.

The Lake is in a terrible state, it's a shame but there is little chance it will ever be as diverse as it once was. Unfortunately this isn't governments an such's main concern, whether we agree or not.

Thx for the help guys.
