Next step after my recent losses on Penguin Tetra's due to wood issue.

That I saw...you'll have a large list to choose from, though taking the too big, or the too-many off the list will shorten it a little and removing those that need matured tanks will shorten it further.

Yes, have done a little research and will continue to do so. I am sure if I check before I add I will be successful.

Both Byron and yourself and other members have very kind to give your time and advice.

I'm just looking forward to seeing your new tank all set up and fishy!

Thank you for your input as always @Byron. I do not have enough knowledge (yet) to decide on the "exact" final stocking. I was looking to aim for a peaceful community tank. The idea of Cories appeals to me to begin with - and assuming the LFS have some, I will as you suggest get 12-15. Going forward I think my best bet is to ask on my next choice - Kuhli loach appeal to me as do - Tetra (rainbow), Hillstream Loach.

My water lettuce have shown some very good growth, the salvinia - not so much (to date).

Loaches should not be combined with Corydoras, so decide on which. Kuhli are less of an issue here (with cories) than are any of the botine loaches (species in the genus Botia and similar), but I would still not do this myself.

As for Hillstream Loaches, that is a very big issue. They must have strong currents, and coolish temperatures. The temperature will obviously affect other fish to varying degrees, but so will the water movement. It is not easy to find tankmates when Hillstream Loaches are definite in the tank, they are frankly best on their own, or with fish like White Cloud Mountain Minnows that share similar requirements. The need for green algae is another issue with thse loaches, and one I think was covered in another thread (?).

Well I have taken the plunge. Added today (see picture), was going to add a group of Corys - but the LFS only had Leopard in and they were a bit pricey as I was going to add 12. Also added to floating plants.

Your tank's looking good...best not rush things, though! ;)
I want more floaters, but they don't exist around me, so I'm going to have to buy online. :(

I got the floaters on-line. Delivered today, in excellent condition.

Are you using any plant supplement? These plants will recover and get growing better if they have the nutrients they need, and a new tank will certainly be lacking many of these. A comprehensive liquid supplement is needed for floating plants.

Hello @Byron

I am using Flourish, is there a better choice I could obtain in my neck of the woods ?

If by Flourish you mean Flourish Comprehensive Supplement for the Planted Aquarium, that is fine [Seachem manufacture several different nutrients under the "Flourish" line, do not use any of the others except the Flourish Tabs for larger substrate-rooted plants].

You are in the UK, so have a look for The Nutrient Company's TNC Lite. I cannot get this here, but would try it if I could. It has all the necessary nutrients like the Flourish Comp, except for nitrogen and phosphorus, and these do not need to be added anyway as there will be sufficient from the fish and feeding the fish. Having said this though, the amount of nitrate and phosphorus in Flourish Comp is not really enough to be an issue; I have been using the Flourish liquid and tabs for over ten years, and they do make a difference without question.

Appreciated - Thank you @Byron

I'm currently using the Tropica Premium Nutrition and have no complaints.
Tropica plants aren't the cheapest, by a long chalk...but I've been impressed so far with what I've got. If ever you want to eyeball them, check out your nearest Pets@Home, as they stock Tropica stuff, including plants.
