Yesterday I brought 1 dwarf Gourami and 6 neon tetras, I got them straight home and float the bags they were in into the tank, I gradually add tank water into each bag and waited for about an hour before I let them into the tank. I even checked my ammonia and nitrites levels before I let them into the tank, even though the tests came out as zero I thought it would be better if The changed same of the tank’s water which was about 10percent or less than that. A couple o hours later one neon looked like he was grasping for air in the surface. I waited another hour in till his color started to fade and he couldn’t swim any more. I held its dieing body in my hand into he passed away which was only a couple of minutes later. My question is did I do anything wrong with adjusting them to my tank water? I brought them locally so there shouldn’t be a change in ph.

Another problem….. My male platy is following my Gourami around ( he needs company) and my Gourami is getting annoyed so he pecks at him and swims quicky away for him, though there is no injures, I fear they would stress each other out, I think to help my problem I should buy a female dwarf Gourami and and about 2-3 females for the platy, my tank should be going into a mini cycle right now so, when can I add more fishes?

The neon could have died simply from the stress or, it could have some kind of illness. Keep a close eye on your other fish.

As for adding anymore, if it's a 10 gallon tank I'd say you're pretty full up already!

Neon tetras die if you look at them wrong. They are very sensitive little fish. If he didn't appear to have anything wrong, and you know the water is ok, I would just say stress from the move did it.

1.Move things around the tank to get platy confused :S
2.Your tank is over crouded, your neon might have gotten frightened by
all the ohter fish swimming around and not enough cover for it's self. :byebye:

The tanks in all LFS are overstock as well or even more so them mine, what makes them able to ingnore the overstocking rule? Better Filtration ? Could someone overstock their tank if they do daily water changes? ( not saying that I want to do that)

What kind of gourami do you have? If it isn't a naturally aggressive fish then it could be aggresive from overstocking. I'm sure you have heard the inch of fish per gallon rule but there is also one for surface area too. I can't remember that one but maybe someone else does :X . Also in stocking take into consideration the amount of excrements that come from each fish. Such as goldfish are much messier than gouramis. Tanks at LFS are overstocked but they have a system set up to better their filtration. One thing you could also do when you add fish is make sure the light is off that way they have time to acclimate without seeing you right there.

I have my like 8x neon and 9x cardinal tetras over my 25g they do pretty well. Before I have like 10 neon but 1 got suck into the filter and die and one die from unknown reason and now the remain one r very active and doing very well. I would say fish dont tend to swim on the surface of the tank mostly unless its either not enought oxygen in tank so they r face to swim up or stress from too crowed tank. Also you dont have to do like 1 hours of waiting. I only wait like 30 minutes just for them to get the right temperature if ur tank is planted they should have no problem getting use to ur water. Remember you dont have to do lower ph for tetra the fish will get use to higher ph no problem. chamical is not healthy for fish. And I dislike using chemical to do that because during water change you cant massure the ph like perfectly match to the water inside ur tank. rather let it be. Also it would be better if u have some plants inside the tank. Before I have bought like 10x neon and they all die on my smaller 20 g tank and I think its because my tank ain't live planted. neon and cardinal tetra need a good planted tank so they have place to hide and they would act alot more natural like alot less stress.

Neons are sensitive little things and really need pristine, stable and well established water.
