Hey all

I just picked up a used tank and new to the hobby. The tank had water so I didnt see any leaks or scratches. He said he was using it for awhile but got the tank used also. So my questions are..

How long do used fish tanks last?

How do I clean the calcium buildup around the rim of the glass . I tried a razor blade but theres still stuff thats showing.

My glass is foggy, not sure if this is bc no water in the tank. How do I make the tank look clear like new?

Thanks and hello

welcome!
try using salt and scrub it off. takes less elbow grease if you use salt...then hose it out really well.
cheers!

will Vinegar be toxin to the fish?

Do all used tanks look foggy with no water in them? Bc all the new tanks in stores on display are crystal clear.

No, even if your later rinsing did not completely catch all the vinegar, it wouldn't be so bad for the fish although of course you wouldn't want a lot. I agree with the others, mineral deposits can be quite difficult. Another thing you can do is take eighths of a lime or lemon and rub the pulp side against the calcium deposits in-between razor blade scrapings. Also figuring out a way to allow any of these acids to stay covering the calcium deposits overnight would be even better I believe.
