Quick newbie question. I have just set up a new aquarium intended for angels cycled for over a week added 10 zebra danios they settled in well so then added a year old angel I bought off someone off gumtree thinking it'd be ok. The angels been in 24 hours and still seems shy. It likes to stay in the corner inbetween some tall artificial plants and the filter and just swims about now and again. It's very sensitive to the lights so kept off for now (is this normal?) is it lonely? Would it be advisable to get another angel? And should I get a similar sized one?

Thanks for any help and sorry if I sound a noob!

you can't cycle a tank in a week unless you already have cycled media and putting it into the new filter with treated water etc etc.
there will be a high ammonia spike.. do a 50% water change (warm water when adding it back in) so that the water is "safer" and finish cycling.

also the min size for an angel is 30 gallons per angel.. so if you have 2 have 60 gallons. and so on.

There are different views on what tank size is suitable for angelfish. Some opinions only consider the depth of the tank and that varies from 40cm to 60cm as a minimum. I read on a website from someone who breeds them who believed tank size is insignificant to a "greater extent". Go figure

A single angelfish is fine, in fact many people keep only one because they can be quite edgy with each other. I initially bought 2 that are adults now and then two that are about 6 months old now. The majority of the time they are very content with each other and feed together quite happily. IMO if you have at least 40cm then it's fine to get another one, but definitely the same size. You take a chance though on how well they will get on. They might be fine, they might not, but at least there won't be a risk of one being killed because it's smaller. I hope that makes sense.

Get your tank cycled first though. Priority :)
