hi anyone...everyone, had kept tropical for quite a few years and now wish to start with marine..i have read a bit looked up a bit and heard a bit! however still confused . i wish to set up to start a fish only marine tank of 150 litres i intend to use live rock in the required poundage an external filter tetra tec and possibly a protein skimmer red sea prizm...now the questions: do i need the skimmer as my local shop says no and he has a number of marine tanks with undergravel filter only circa 18 years!! when do i put the cured live rock in? do i use lighting with this or not during maturing process?
two 24 inch t5 will i need more to keep the live rock? if i decide to change to some easier inverts later will i need more light reason only 24 inch, tank is 31 inch long. but quite tall thats where the 33 gallons comes from. also the tank has an internal filtration system but it only does 400 litre an hour i understand it requires at least 10 times per hour help please

what are your goals with the tank livestock wise?

thanks for answering goals are a fish only set up followed by some easy anenomes? the fish would be the usual suspects ie clownfish, blennies? possibly small wrasse obviously very slowly i am concerned about live rock and lighting as i dont want to waste money on live rock if it just dies due to lack of light?any suggestions on fish would be appreciated also hermit crabs starfish the clean up crew in general thanks

Your live rock is going to be fine with that lighting. Anemones probably wont. You didnt mention a wattage but anemones like medium-strong lighting depending on the species. You said you wanted "easy" anemones. There arent any. Anemones arent very tolerant of shifting water conditions. Some anemones can be hardier and more forgiving than others. You may want to look into Condylactis or Hatian anemones. Just be aware that you're chances of getting any fish to host in it are very very slim.

chris, there are plenty of easy to care for anemones, some almost impossible to kill, they are just not so wanted. Examples include aiptasia and majano.

i was just saying, because your last post was... incorrect in a way, but im sure most will see what you mean.

Right, I was incorrect. I shouldnt assume people dont want aiptasia living with "the usual suspects ie clownfish, blennies? possibly small wrasse"

The Prism skimmer is not the best

I'd recommend a Deltec skimmer

Most anemones are not easy to keep - until you are experienced I'd not get one

The exceptions as mentioned above are Aiptasia & Majanoes which are considered as pests - they are fine with fish but can damage corals

thanks alot for all advice everyone, for me the anens would be the last thing on my list but i wanted to know would it be possible on the lights. as for the skimmer i picked the prism delux version as i had read a few good reviews in british aquarian shops even recommended in one but it also fitted within my budget at only £83.00 however i will look up the deltec skimmer aswell... i am also considering the clean up crew how does this affect the amount of fish i can keep?? or does it not?....
