Hello all,
Just found this forum and I see its crammed with great info. Before i get a chance to sift through it all can I get opinions on this: I have 60L tank, 1 X clown plec (I dont ever see!) 1 X Gurami (probably not spelt right) 2 X Giant danio and 4 X fan-tail guppy's, just bought today. All this is bought over a period of 2 months from same shop.
Problem is the Gurami seems a bit of a bully to all the fish, the Danios and the Gurami have eaten the fan tails "tails" to shreeds in 1 day and i dont think they will survive, they try and hide at the moment.
I dont think I have been advised correctly on grouping these fish together, what do you guy's think as was going to phone them tommorow and complain?

Thanks

Danios can be nippy, but they aren't usually that bad with Guppies. Guppies are mid-to-lower section swimmers, where as Danios are top section swimmers, so the two *usually* keep out of each others way. :good: Gouramis can be very nasty to a lot of tank mates, especially in a smaller tank, so are one to mix with care. A few (like "Red Robin" and Honey Gourami [technically these two are the same species, just different colour morphs]) can be good communal fish towards anything and everything that does not pick on them, but most "run of the mill" Gouramis have a nasty side to them

I would certainly take either the Gourami or the Guppies back and have a word with the staff. The staff member may not have been aware of the fish in the tank already, or may not have know you have potentially nippy fish if they weren't formiliar with them. They should refund/replace at least the Guppies with their error though

All the best
Rabbut

Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck.
Ya, sounds like you have a male Gourami. They don't do well with fish with long flowing fins such as Bettas and your male mollies.
And your Danios occassional fin nip as well.
I suggest decide what you want and take the others back and get fish that are more compatible. Do a little research on your own or ask around on the forum. There are also pinned threads that can help I believe.

The Giant Danios are going to get too big and boistrous for the tank, In such a small group and in a small tank you will find them to become quite aggressive

Yes, I've had giant danios in the past and found them to be just as Davo describes. They are big, fast and will definately get aggressive with what they see as "slow flutter" if its cluttering their "race course." They are meant to be in a really big tank zooming about the upper levels and they are fast fish who like long runs to dart in.

Also, rabbuts gourami comments were very good. Agree with those.
