Hi all, I have had fish tanks for years, fresh water fish, got my first guppies about two weeks ago, put a nylon on my filter in case babies arrived, found some yesterday, went today and bought jar of baby brine shrimp and fry food, fed them egg yolk yesterday. all day found myself sitting, staring at tank, looking for babies, think there is 8. this is very exciting. fish store told me not to worry about having too many because they buy them, I am ready to give them away so I don't have them coming out my ears. how fast do they grow ? when can I tell if they are male or female ?Ty carol

first off :hi: ! congrats your babies!

if they are like other live bearers im familiar with, it take a few months to be able to sex them for sure, but guppies could be different. post in the "live bearers section" or look thru there and u can probably find ur answer! they do grow pretty fast! I found out yesterday one of my platties dropped some fry, saw two haning out in my floating plants, another couple swimming around the bottom, Im going to let nature take these ones I think, tho we all wish we could keep them all!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You'd want to wait a few months before you sell them as I doubt the LFS would want fry (I could be wrong)
What size is your tank? Maybe you could keep these ones and sell the next lot. Bearing in mind there could be a lot more the next time.

Good luck with your guppies.

My tank is 55 gallon, I have 8 t bone rasporas, a pleco 6 guppies and 3 platys, there is also supposed to be a botia in there but can't find it. anyone know how I can tell the sex of my platys ? ty for the info and welcome

in the livebearers section there is alot of info on sexing. its as simple as what thier bottom fins look like for the most part. have a look in that section of the forum and all ur questions will be answerd!

Welcome to our forum Carol.
As Airborne has said, sexing common livebearers is a breeze. I have a link in my signature area to the thread on sexing livebearers but cannot remember what I called that link. Platies fit into the most common of the poeciliid type livebearers so look for that type when you get there.
