Hello, I am fairly new to fish keeping, And just last night got some Mollies for my tank.
I brought home 2 black female, 1 orange/yellow male, and 1 silver female. And I believe the silver one is PREGO!!
I believe in survival of the fittest, and dont plan on separating them from the adult fish. But I would be happy
if a couple of them lived to adulthood. Do you have any suggestions for me as far as adding plants, or something for them to hide in.
And when these little babies are born.... is there a special food for them, or just crush up the food I have for the adults?
Are Mollies live bearers?

I took a few pictures of them lastnight that I am going to try to upload to PhotoBucket, but my computer has been acting up, so we'll just have to see if I am able to do it. I'm real excited to share them with you guys, because a couple of them turned out really good!!

I look forward to learning more from everyone here.
And Thanks in advance for any answers you provide to my questions!!

Hi nd welcome to the forums. What size aquarium/s do you have? In answer to your questions: Yes mollies are livebearers, yes you can feed the babies on finely crushed tropical flake and yes plants are a good idea for most aquariums both for water quality and for fry to hide in. Also you didn't say whether you have any other fish as this can have a bearing on whether fry survive. Have fun with your new hobby and keep posting the questions. :good:

I have a ten gallon tank, but if more than a couple survive, I am willing to get another tank to keep them in.
I only have the four Mollies in the tank, that was the amount the guy at PetSmart said is good for a ten gallon.
And I dont want any trouble with water quality, that is part of the reason I dont want to separate the fry.
Though I could go ahead and get a second tank up and running to keep them in!! Its a good excuse to go ahead
and do it right!! HHmm! :hyper: :sly:

Well if you want to set up another tank u could. Remember it's twice the maintanence though, I should know as I've got 9  However, probably not a good idea to separate the fry too early as they might be too delicate. I'd just provide plenty of plant cover and see what happens. You'll need to do frequent water change once the babies arrive as they're mucky little blighters and will pollute a tank quickly. A lot of members seem to do 40 to 50% daily w/c's, I do 40% twice weekly for my guppy fry and so far no problems. Then after a couple of weeks move the fry into a separate tank and do twice weekly water changes 25% then after another month once weekly should suffice. Good luck :good:
