Hey I have never used real plants but I thought I'd give it a shot to make my take look real. I have a 25 Gallon community tank. What would you recomend that is easy for a new person with plants to try and is their anything I should know about plants?
Thanks

Hi Irishlax627,

Welcome to the forum. That is a hugely open ended question you've asked there.

The types of plants you can have will depend on the amount of light you have. Do you know what type of light? and how watts you have?

If you are just after starting off with little or no maintenance, then start off with plants like Java fern, anubias and java moss. These require low light levels and most people should be able to grow these.

Thank you for the welcome.

I do realize that my question is kind of vauge but like I said Ive only used fake plants. As far as lighting I have a 15 W All Glass Aqaurium light.

OK, well with that amount of light over a 25 gallon tank, you're only really going to have success with the plants i suggested above.

If you're interested in getting more light, there is a sticky at the top of this forum with info about lights.

Just bare in mind if you have 2 to 2.5 watts per gallon, you will need to inject CO2 to help keep algae at bay and it's probably inevitable that you will have to fertilise too.
