I have bought two new wave 1.6 adj circulation pumps. External to the water they are silent. When under water (after bubbles etc are shaken out) the unit is fairly quiet unless it is aimed downwards and is flippin' noisey when affixed to the glass using the suction cup provided.

Anyone else have one of these and found a way to fix the noise issue?

Anyone able to suggest an alternative and quieter unit?

Thanks

ooohhh - I've been moved. S
orry Mods - I thought general was the place to go. Now I just hope people look at this part of the forum.

I have an Aqua Medic Nanoprop 5000 powerhead, that comes with a bizarre suction cup attachment unit (I managed to shear the original screw thread suction device within minutes of opening, trying to guage how much tension was needed, got replacement pretty quick thanks to great shop service).

Anyway, this powerhead of mine is sometimes noisey, even when I have submersed it and rotated it all angles eliminate any air. What I found to help was to dismantle the suction cup device and use an extra rubber insert to dampen the vibrations, that plus changing the orientation of how the powerhead unit plugged into the suction cup device. A couple of weeks back, I think I also changed the path the power lead took coming out of the back of the powerhead, it is now completely silent for the first time in over 12 months of using it in full power mode (5000lph).

It seems such a shame to buy something new and then pull it to pieces to dampen the vibrations. Sounds like the same sort of thing I have going on.

Certainly I can see how the vibrations can be transmitted to the glass - making the glass act as a speaker.

I wonder if anyone has had more noise from the motor when it is angled down. I still think there may be an issue with the impeller sliding forward.
