Hi Everybody,

totally new to this so any advice most welcome, have bought a Fluval 800, 135 ltr tank, have rinsed it, put the gravel and Plastic plants and in, heater and filter in and running, added Nutrafin Cycle 15ml, and Nutarafin Aqua Plus to remove the chlorine etc. Want to add some real plants, should I do this immediately to cycle the tank? When should I start testing the water? Reading some of the Posts the people seem to think better doing this yourself as opposed to taking it to someone else. Now the really stupid bit.... My kids have 2 "normal" goldfish that are kept in a Gold Fish bowl, would they transfer to the new tank? If so when would this take place?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Forgot to add, located in Devon, UK

hi,
:hi: to tff.
apart from the goldfish, will you be adding any other fish?
i have a master test kit, its good to have your own you can test when ever you like, you will need to test often when doing a cycle ,either fishless with the use of amonia, or with a few hardy fish, just adding plants alone wont cycle a tank, you may add plants at any stage. donna. :)

Thanks for that, yes intend to add a variety of fish, just got to agree with Turi, and research what lives well together.Going out at lunchtime to purchase a testing kit and will pick up some plants on the way home, will the GoldFish accostomise to warm water after being in a bowl? Will they live happily along side Tropical fish? Or do they need to sit in the bowl with envy looking at the "other" fish?

hi again,
are you going for fish that you can have with your goldfish, like wcmm?
or are you thinking of a temp of a more tropical nature? donna. :)

Was thinking more of Tropical fish, not sure what exactly, bright and colourful, when people say about "Hardy Fish" to start with, whilst I know what they mean not sure what type of Fish they refer to, the Guy in the store suggested Neons as these are not too expensive which not sure I agree with the sentiment of it doesn't matter too much if they do not survive as they are cheap.....

In Torquay we have an aqautic shop which I intend visiting today, apparently they are very helpful but would still appreciate any advice you offer.
:/

hi
a good starter fish thats hardy is platy or danios, but it depends on your future stock,
im a big fan of platy ,they are hardy friendly, and come in some wonderfull colours.
neons wont make a good starter fish they wont live long in a tank that is cycling.
good luck with your new fish.donna :)

Welcome to the forum.

If the goldfish are in a goldfish bowl ( :/ ), then get them out of there ASAP... If they've survived in a bowl, they can probably tollerate cycling. Make it a coldwater tank, or subtropical.
