Wow..keeping fish is much crazier than I ever expected.
Me and my room mate decided to get some fish...I'm not even entirely sure of what all we ended up getting..well only with one of them.
so far we have 2 guppies, a tequila sunrise..and one that's all orange with a white belly. which brings me to the first problem.

1. The orange guppy chases the other guppy around very much. I'm sort of worried about the other one..but most of our fish chase each other around and i'm sure fish just do that for fun..i just don't want to wake up to a dead guppy.

we have a Red Wag Platy. He..it's all a deep orangish red with black fins. referred to as Big Red. we also have 2 other fish that look similiar to big red. one is a lighter orange with black fins, i think he's a sunburst platy? We'll call him spot in this discussion. then there is another one that is yellow with a very orange back half, but his tail fin is a little transparent. I'm not sure what that one is so call him "?" .
problem 2.

2. Big Red - big red seems to be a very grouchy member of the community. He chases Spot and "?" endlessly at times...other times they all seem to get along..but sometimes he just won't have it. I'm pretty concerned about Spot because one of the other guppy's was pecking at it a bit. she seems to have a tear in her tail and also has a few spots on her, i don't think it's ick spots. it looks more like she was pecked at. when big red comes around spot's dorsal fin drops and she usually runs away. what's going on? i thought we had community fish!! but my friends tiger barbs, rainbow shark, and piscus? catfish get along better than our fish do.

Also in the tank are two tetras, a Red Minor and an Orange flame. They get along fine with everyone and don't seem to be bothered at all. There is also my favorite, CatNip, the upside down catfish. Until..about 5 minutes ago i was getting pretty concerned about him. When we first got him he seemed relatively active, in fact he probably did 500 laps around our tank. Then we kinda died, literally almost. he like swam up for a second, then sank straight down. but that has all ended and hes rested. Now he usually just sits by the filter and doesn't do anything. I was getting concerned because i never saw him eat and even got him bottom feeder shrimp pellets. However I've been researching them and saw that they are nocturnal so last night i turned the light off on the aquarium. I was happy to see he was swimming around a bit more..but looked to stay sides on occasion and twitch? i think he must have just been relaxing by the plant though because i dropped in some shrimp pellets by him and he nibbled on one then hid at the filter.. since then he's been much more active and was eating with the other fish off pellets at the bottom and hiding on another piece of decor. so i'm not too worried about him anymore. i would just hate to lose him he's my favorite.

3. ..That's not a stone?!

Last night i was staring at the tank checking out how much waste there was in the rocks already. i noticed a bright orange dot but quickly realized that could not be a stone "OMG IT'S A BABY FISH"! You can not imagine our excitment, but also confusion. where on earth did this little guy come from? I decided the big fish would definately eat him if found so we had to get him out. Well..these little buggers are quick and hiding in the pebbles. As we were trying to catch this one, bumping the rocks made more come out! We tried and tried and caught about 8 fry before deciding to give up for a bit. there are still some in the tank. I witnessed one making a daring dash through the water and getting chased by a guppy and Big Red!!! don't worry there will soon be another rescue mission..they do look so funny hiding in the rocks together though. Boy was that a surprise! We are going to try to raise them. we are picking up some brine shrimp (hopefully) and maybe that liquid food? but where did these guys come from? who's the female. I read that livebearers can go on giving birth again and again for awhile...we can't keep having babies.

Thanks for any advice, Hope you've been as entertained by these crazy critters as i have been

grats on the baby fish but hope you tank is big enough to support them.

Also did you just start the hobby? if so How big is your tank and did you cycle it? It just seems like you have alot of fish which is fine if you have a big tank. Wouldn't want your fish to be harmed.

Good luck with the babies. I hope to raise some of my own baby fish someday.

So that's

2 guppies
3 platies
2 tetras
1 upside down catfish

First some questions.

1. What is your tanks capacity?
2. How longs it been set up?
3. How did you cycle it before adding fish?
4. Were all fish added at the same time?
5. Do you know your water stats for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH.

Oh and :hi: to TFF by the way

:good:
