hey hows it goin, i've been on the forum 4 a while but didnt do anything for a while well i was looking 4 a big tank. well recently i bought a u.s. 60 gallon tank with stand for $110. i would like to plant it, planted tanks look really cool to me . i've had it cycleing for about 2 weeks now.

MY CURRENT SETUP:

1.FILTER - MARINELAND BIO-WHEEL POWER FILTER PENGUIN 350

2.NO LIGHT YET, BUT MY LFS GUY ORDERED ME A LIGHT HE SAID WOULD WORK 4 MY TANK

3. SUBSTRATE - I HAVE SMALL NATURAL LOOKING GRAVEL, MIXED WITH LATERITE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. ABOUT 1 INCH

4. DECOR - SO FAR I HAVE 2 SMALL PIECES OF DRIFT WOOD ABOUT A FOOT LONG, I HAVE ORDERED 2 LARGER PIECES ABOUT 2 FEET LONG

thats all i have now, any plant suggestions or fish i should get , or anything i need please let me know. your advice and tips will be greatly appreiciated. bye

well i think your gonan want to go lowtech which basicly means no co2 or precise fertlising.
first thing though is you need to work out how good your light actualy is. you could get bamboozled with info on what you need for a planted tank but id start with some basic's
for me that would be some plants such as anubius as this is easy to keep but also a very slow grower.
do some reaserch look for what plants you want then ask here.

1. personaly i think your filter will be fine but im not a fan of the hangon ones.
2. light is proberly the most important thing for you make sure you get some decent bulbs
3. would help if you know what was mixed with your gravel
4. wood is allways nice and you can easily tie moss to it in a lowtech tank and it will look nice.

i guess the main thing is how much money do you wanna spend and how much time do you have.
if i was you id do some strong reserch into what u actualy want your tank to looklike then see if your budget could reach that.
things to think about are

lighting
co2
ferts(EI)
substrate
plants
fish
filter

1.FILTER - MARINELAND BIO-WHEEL POWER FILTER PENGUIN 350

In a planted tank, 10X turnove is reccomended so CO2 & nutrients are pushed around effectiely, and no dead spots are created so it minimizes any chance of algae.

2.NO LIGHT YET, BUT MY LFS GUY ORDERED ME A LIGHT HE SAID WOULD WORK 4 MY TANK

You need to know te wattage before you can say which plants you have
3. SUBSTRATE - I HAVE SMALL NATURAL LOOKING GRAVEL, MIXED WITH LATERITE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. ABOUT 1 INCH

1" isnt very deep and you may truggle planting & keeping them in until they root properly, you want at least 2"
