Right i have been keeping fish for about a month now. i bought a 130L tank with a Gourmi, angel fish and a Red-tailed black shark. (sorry i dont know all the latin names.)

i have rearranged the tank so many times and i think i want to go for a more planted tank at the moment.

my tank is a community tank so far i have;

1 penguin tetra
2 cardinal tetra's
4 Red phantom tetra's
3 tiger barbs(one is green thou)
3 mollies (one male, two females)
4 orange sword-tails

2 angel fish (one older black one and a new little while one)
1 silver shark
1 Red-tailed black shark
2 siemise algae Eaters
1 rubber nosed plec.
1 Male fighting Fish (red)
1 yellow gourimi

Overview;

Will try and get more pics up asap but any comments would be greatly appriciated.

Also with the fish i have now would 5 clown loach go with them??

I think your tank looks great! :good:

however, i think there are some issues with the stocking. both of the sharks get large and and the silver shark likes to be in groups and therefore needs a much bigger tank. The siamese algae eaters get large and aggressive. The tetras like to be in groups, too. The fighting fish has very delicate fins and prefers to live on his own in an unfiltered tank which should be between 2.5gal and 5gal. Check the betta section out on here.

I'd suggest this as a stocking:
6 penguin tetras
6 cardinal tetras
6 Red phantom tetras
6 tiger barbs
3 mollies
4 orange swordtails
2 angel fish
1 rubber nosed plec
1 yellow gourami

i know where your coming from with the stocking of the fish but im not so keen on the tetras or livebearers was only bought as a smaller tank stocker but i moved into a larger tank.

ah okay. :good:

also, clown loaches get huge. they'd go with your other fish, but they'd need a tank upgrade in a few years.

**Update**

Stocking;

1 senegal birchir
1 rubber nose/lip plec
1 red-tailed black shark
1 bala/silver shark
1 Yellow Gourimi
3 tiger barbs
2 angel fish
4 sword-tails

I know the birchir will eventually out grow its tank mates but until then and until i save for a separate tank for him his home will do.

Also bought some more bogwood and made a hiding cave out of slate.

I wish my first tank looked like that! Anyway, I still think that there are a bit more stocking problems in your tank that you have to sort out. 1. The bala shark will get way too big for this tank. 2. The tiger barbs are going to eventually tear the angel's fins apart. 3. The red-tail black shark may become too territorial for the other bottom dwellers, so be careful. I had to get rid of mine (I had one in my first tank, too!) because he got too aggressive.

Great start, though! A bichir person is great too. ;)

the two species of shark shouldnt be kept together as they are known to fight to the death, the tetras will become stressed unless placed in larger shoals.
the tiger barbs get quite aggressive especially in smaller shoals and will fin nip bettas, sword tails and angels. the gourami's should be kept in monogomous pairs.

good luck :good:

nice size tank x

Ah... im not totally in agreement with you here. I would say a 3 gal minimum sure but I would never put a fish in an unfiltered tank and expose it to high levels of ammonia unless I did water changes twice weekly at least.

well most people say 1gal minimum, so i was being generous. :p

Also, most bettas hate current so they actually do better in an unfiltered tank... of course only if there are regular water changes.

Sorry Esfa, have to disagree with the last bit. All my Bettas are kept in filtered tanks and as result, I've never had any problems with illness, dislike of current etc.
The tank they are in is divided giving them 6G each and as it's an external filter, I can control the flow. They used to be kept in 5G tanks with internal filter and all I did was divert the flow to suit their needs.
I'm with jwddboy on this one, I don't agree with any fish being kept in an unfiltered tank.

Thanks for all of your feedback as im new.

although i only registered on here the other day my tank has been up and running with the 1st stocking for about 2-3 months and i havent had any problems with the way i stocked up my fish.

I know now i have a birchir i have got to be a little more carefull with fish i purchase.

so far im loving the fish i have maybe replace the swordtails with something.

Any ideas of what will go with a birchir???
