Hi :D

Rather a long winded question here I'm afraid :/
I've just bought a Profi 2 co2 system, from what I've read most people aim for 25-30ppm (I think i have that right)

Now the question bit  How do you know when you have the above reading?
Is it monitored by ph/kh, or is there a testing kit I can buy to buy?

Or does one just increase the bubbles per minute until the ph/kh starts to dip and a sort of balance is achieved?
The system came with a permanent ph tester guide, bit nothing for measuring ppm.

Anita

Hi Anita. I have one of those too - and yes, we mostly aim for 25-30ppm.

I don't think many of use use that JBL gadget thinghy - too fiddly and vague and not quite accurate.

Best is to meassure your kH and pH and calculate as such.

Do you have Chuck's calculator ?

Whatever you do, do so very gradually :)

And remember when you do refills : you usually have to freeze the bottle empty overnight and take it into the shop for a refill. Always let your bottle reach room temperature before connecting it up again - or else it expands as it heats up again and bubbles pump out at the rate of knots and cause havoc and disaster.

Ps: you will probably get a better response over in the planted section :)

Hi bloozoo2
Thank you for your reply.
I was going to concentrate on the ph/kh readings anyway. I have to, with discus in the tank my ph/kh are pretty low all the time.
I thought the instructions that came with the Profi system were pretty poor.
Or is it just me!

They are pretty dismal indeed :S One would expect better from the Germans and high priced gear.
