Ok, so i work at petsmart, and we have about 14 small Convict cichlids in a small area. it annoyed me because a pair kept breeding and once their babies were freeswimming all the others would get to them, no way could the parents protect them all. I'm know i got the father of the babies i brought home, but i need to make sure that the smaller one is a female. It does have a small orange/red spot on both sides of her, and she is darker than him. He is a brownish color. please let me know if you think she is a female, i'm pretty sure/hopeful that she is a she. take a look, and let me know what you think.

the small darker one with the small amount of reddish/orange i think is the female, and i'm pretty sure that the large lighter one is the male. please tell me of you agree or if i'm wrong.

thank you

the small one is 100% female.
but now sure about the big one. dose the big one have orange on its sides??
i see some orange on the big ones top fin or is it the flash of the camera.
if they both have orange on them then its female and if theres no ornage on there bodies means its a male.
hope it helps.

OOO YAY! because the big one has no orange, its the camera/lighting, but he does have some greenish/blue specks on his top fin and its really pretty under the light. Oh yay! now i'm very excited. Hopefully if they decide to make more babies they wont feel as stressed as they did at petsmart. I mean, at my store we have a HUGE filteration sysyem that flows through all tropical tanks, but we have tank devider things for each type of fish, and these poor fishies were with like 12-14 others in something looking about 5gallons at the most. so right now they are in my 10 gallon, and within the next month, I'm buying a 30-40 gallon for these two.

i sure hope so....All the babies i had in the cup in my tank died today. i did a very small water change since they are in a small cup, and i guess it stressed them out too much, because they are all dead now....I'm so upset. if these ones have more babies i'm leaving them in with the parents until they are freeswimming or about 2 weeks old. I've ordered a sponge filter also. My big convicts are so afraid of me. its making me crazy, i've had them for a day, and they are from a petstore used to people looking at them all the time! and all they do is hide... :(
