Jus completed a water change in tank and decided i need to get a new tank so i hav a filter, I was thinking of this one..........

http://www.hagen.com/uk/aquatic/addinfo/elite-kits.html

What do u think??

I hav a heater which i can place in the tank, one question about my heater first is it FULLY submersible? it's a tetra deltatherm 50watt.

Tha tank i was thinking of was a 19litre so i would have my little Betta and maybe some ghost shrip, about 3, would that be ok??

Thanks, lewis

Cool 5gal is great for a betta. Don't know about the shrimp everyone tells me the betta will kill them that's why I'm gonna get some snails. :)

Cool... What about the heater???

I could always have some corys in there... about 3pandas or albinos....... that ok?

Ta

i was looking at them 2day at my lfs and the elite2 was on offer from £27 to £20
im thinking of having 1 ive got the elite 2 filter in one of my other tanks and its pretty good and the one on offer had got a lite in tank to not bad i say

I have one of those filters for my hospital tank but I find it a little noisy where the air intake is, seems to do the job though

I have no idea about your heater though, sorry

I was gonna go for the 19litre 1.... matchs the coulor of my betta and is only 24.99 on seapets.co.uk.

I would hav my betta and either ghost shrimp or corys in a shoal of three... That ok??

How would i cycle it?? i only have one heater so i cant add fish to it..... I wil hav to do a partial water change with warm water before i put in the heater and betta... so the temp for the fish going isnt a prob as i do that when i do a change in my one gal tank and hav a routine going now....

Does that set up sound ok???

Thanks

Sounds good. Something to think about though, I put 3 corries in a 5 gal with one of my CT's and the CT wouldn't leave them alone so I had to move them to my 10 gal. It depends on the betta though. Just make sure that the temp in the new tank is the same or as close as you can get it to the temp in the tank the betta is in now when you move him. To cycle you can do a fishless cycle. Here's a link to a pinned topic in beginners questions that explains how to do a fishless cycle.

Thanks, does any1 here hav one of these tanks either capacity the 19 or 11 litre 1?? If i was to add some of the dirty old tank water from my current tank would that help the cycle??

Thanks

I have found the waterhome 3 with light for 24.99 or there is the elite for the same price...
I think will go for the elite 3 as it's a better deal..... It comes with the gravel etc... and matches the colour of my fish... were as the waterhome 3 only has the light and filter....

What do u think????

Lewis

Adding water from your previous tank to your newer tank will not help speed up the cycling process as the good bacteria that cycles your tank is located in your gravel and filter media. I suggest running the 5 gallon filter on your current tank for a bit OR adding a bit of the old gravel to your new tank.

Well see this is the reason I'm getting a new tank sylar, my current 1doesnt have a filter so i am doing full changes weekly already i just changed all the water and cleaned gravel on sat and the water already smells REALLY bad and the gravel is dirty to already so if i get the new tank i wont need full changes as it 5gal and hopefully have some ghost shrimp to help the filter keep the waste down.... what do u think of the stingray filter??? and the overall tank on the link it is the burgandy reddish 1 of the 2.

Lewis

Its funny that they would label it a GOLDFISH tank (more like goldfish prison)
:eek:sama:
Anywho, Looks nice. Not a big fan of colored gravel . Just make sure your current is to a minimun and your heat to an appropriate level.

well......... I got my new tank... not either of the elites... It is a 2galaprox square tank(glass) with an elite mini filter... just set it all up, rinsed the gravel etc.....

My qu is... He is at the momment in a tank with no filter or pump.... so what is the min amount of time before he can go in...????

Thanks

Well if you cycle it first the soonest he can go in is when the ammonia and nitrItes are at 0 and after you have done a big water change to get the NitrAte down to a good low level. If you don't want to cycle and just do frequent water changes, you can put him in there as soon as you get it all set up and run for a day or so to make sure the temp is steady and everything is working right. But you said that you don't want to have to do complete water changes and the only way to avoid that is to cycle it first and that can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month depending on how much ammonia you use to cycle it.
