My own place!!! Niagara Falls, Ont.
So I've been shopping around for, preferably, a 55 gallon tank.

Haven't found one secondhand, and the brand new kit is $230.

So my grandparents gave me a call this morning to mention one they'd seen secondhand at Goodwill. I started thinking 'Great, now they think a FISHBOWL is a tank.' :sly:
Well, wouldn't ya know it.. it's a 36x12x18, so roughly 33 gallons.
It came with the hood [needs fixing or replacing], stand, AquaClear 200 [my favourite!], 100 watt heater, air pump, and gravel vac.

For $40.

:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
I'm going to go stay at my grandparents house for Easter weekend, and scrub out the tank and try to fix the hood. It's not the 4 footer I wanted but for $40 I'm not gonna complain. :D

And now to go dream of all the things I'm going to put in with my current fish.
For German Blue Rams, neons, otos, and cories, what other tankmates will work?

I'm too excited about this.. :D

I have successfully kepy 2 german blue rams, cories, and neons together and they all did fine. The male ram would occassionaly chase the neons, but never nip at them. I think he just did it out of boredom. :p

I know otos do well in a mature tank so maybe wait on those for awhile. German blue rams also need very good water conditions as they are fragile fish and can sometimes just die with no visible cause. :dunno: I think neon tetras also need a mature tank as well.

Are you going for a fishless cycle or what? :dunno:

Good deal! I wish I could find a tank that size for Toggle. :p I will keep looking though. If I have to, I will buy a new one for him.

Do you like livebearers? I kept a dalmation molly with the tetras, rams, and cories and they did well with them. Hmm...I am not sure of what to suggest as I can't think of anything at the moment.

Hi littlefishie :)

Congratulations on getting an new tank.

Thrift stores are often good places to find bargain equipment. It's all a matter of being in the right place, at the right time, because sometimes they sell quickly. :D

I've already got the fish I mentioned, silly woman. :p

I was looking for other options.. Angels maybe? Though it's risky with neons..

Fishless cycle, pssh. Why wait that long?! ;) I've got an AC200 running in my current tank so I'll be transferring that to the new one along with all the sand, plants, decor, etc.
And then running an additional AC200. Yay overfiltering!

Livebearers = :devil:

Hate them with a passion, the fry drive me insane because I have nowhere to get rid of them other than as a treat for bettas.
And no place to raise 'em to go to the LFS.

Thanks! :)

It never occured to me to check the thrift stores around here, I've just been looking in classifieds and boards at the LFS.

It was originally marked for $150, and then $75 cos they wanted it gone, and then after I inspected, my grandfather haggled 'em down to $40, mostly based on the crappiness of the hood.

I can't wait to take pictures next weekend! I can't set it up until the end of April, but it's waiting in the garage for me.

more neons and cories!! just imagine what some large schools would look like!

but really, the fish you have a super compatible, cover all the areas of your tank, and also look good together. why mess with something that works?

Thanks Benny... working on your sig shortly, I'm just helping a friend foil highlights into her hair. ;)

Mmm, more neons and cories...
I was just thinking something that'd be more of a top dweller, cos my neons are weird and stick more to the middle. The rams take the middle and bottom, and cories are bottom.

Maybe hatchets? My mind is reeling with possibilities! And it has to look good in a planted tank with black sand.

  Congrats on getting your bargin lucky devil :hyper: :hyper: you were on about Hatchets the marbled ones are lovely  good luck with it all.

Best wishes Shanna
